Scoring an own goal in the last minute of a trial for my home city club told me two things:
- perhaps I should have been a striker not a full-back
- any dreams of becoming a professional footballer were over
If you can't play then the next best thing is to talk about it and I realised that I had the ability to become a football commentator.
At the start of my career I spent five years as a news and sports reporter and presenter for BBC Radio Bristol and Somerset Sound as well as a regular freelance reporter for BBC Radio Five. I then moved across to Westcountry TV in Plymouth as a sports reporter and football commentator.
Football is a real family affair as my dad was the Company Secretary and a Director of Exeter City FC and is currently Vice-Chairman at Taunton Town FC.
From 1998 to 2016 my main role was as a Senior News Correspondent for ITV News in the West Country where I was also the South West Business and Technology Correspondent.
In January 2017 I left ITV to set up my own video marketing business. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my young family as well as playing sports.
